Diamond Certification
The blueprint of your diamond. Understanding the grading report is the key to buying with total confidence.
What is a Diamond Certificate?
A diamond certificate (or grading report) is a document issued by an independent gemological laboratory. It describes the diamond's specific characteristics, including the 4Cs (Cut, Color, Clarity, Carat), dimensions, polish, symmetry, and any fluorescence.
Why it matters
Without a certificate from a reputable lab, you are relying solely on the seller's word. A certificate guarantees the quality and authenticity of your stone.

Who Grades the Diamonds?
We exclusively use the world's most trusted laboratories.
International Gemological Institute
The Lab-Grown Leader
IGI is the most prominent lab for grading lab-grown diamonds. They were the first major institute to provide full grading reports for lab-grown stones, using the same strict standards as natural diamonds. VELUNIQ primarily uses IGI for its consistency and detailed reporting on lab-grown origin.
- Detailed Cut Grading
- Clearly states "Lab-Grown"
- Accepted Worldwide
Gemological Institute of America
The Industry Standard
GIA created the 4Cs. While historically focused on natural diamonds, they now offer full grading reports for lab-grown diamonds. A GIA report is synonymous with the highest level of trust and integrity in the industry.
- Inventors of the 4Cs
- Digital-only reports for Lab-Grown
- Unmatched Reputation
Laser Inscription
Every certified lab-grown diamond we sell features a microscopic laser inscription on its girdle (the outer edge). This unique report number is invisible to the naked eye but can be viewed under 10x magnification.
Why check the inscription?
- 1.It proves the diamond in your hand matches the electronic report.
- 2.It clearly identifies the stone as "Lab-Grown" (often prefixed with LG), ensuring transparency.
- 3.It provides security in case of theft or repair—you can always identify your specific stone.

Diamond Certification: IGI & GIA Explained
A diamond certificate, also known as a diamond grading report, is an independent assessment of a diamond's quality issued by a gemological laboratory. Certification provides an unbiased evaluation of a diamond's cut, color, clarity, and carat weight, giving buyers confidence in what they are purchasing. Always insist on a certified diamond to ensure you receive exactly what you pay for.
Major Certification Labs
IGI (International Gemological Institute) is the world's largest independent gemological laboratory and is the leading authority for grading lab-grown diamonds. IGI certificates are widely recognized and trusted, particularly for lab-created diamonds sold through modern retailers.
GIA (Gemological Institute of America) is considered the gold standard in the diamond industry, particularly for natural diamonds. GIA developed the universal 4Cs grading system and is renowned for its strict, consistent grading standards. A GIA-certified diamond typically commands a premium in the market.
What a Certificate Includes
- Carat weight — the precise weight of the diamond to the nearest hundredth of a carat.
- Cut grade — an overall assessment of the diamond's proportions, symmetry, and polish (Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor).
- Color grade — rated on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow or brown).
- Clarity grade — ranges from Flawless (FL) to Included (I3), describing internal inclusions and external blemishes.
- Measurements — the precise dimensions of the diamond in millimeters.
- Fluorescence — indicates whether the diamond glows under UV light and its intensity.
